SEROTONIN SARAH

Our music video for Newcastle Band Emergency Door Release that won Animatedmusicwatch.com’s Video of the Month Competition.

'With visual influences from Indiana Jones to The wind Waker, the music video for EDR's Serotonin Sarah was a joy to work on. We had great fun working with the band at the storyboarding stage and they were supportive throughout. The narrative really gave us a lot of opportunities to play with layout and colour schemes involving lots of exploration, chase scenes and abstract bridging sequences.' - James Taylor, Lead animator on Serotonin Sarah.

E4 A RIDE OF SOME SORT

A fun 'esting' created by Arcus the E4 Estings Competition.

‘I love being tasked to make really short, humorous promos. Also, screaming makes things really funny.’ - Greg Fraser, Lead Animator on A Ride of Some Sort.
?>

HACKER AND DODGE INTERSTITIALS

Our second series of interstitials for the CBBC starring their canine mascot Hacker, this time joined by his cousin Dodge. Together they travel around the world, generally causing mischief and mayhem wherever they go. But will Hacker find any city, country or continent as breathtaking as Wigan?
?>

LAIN AND HACKER INTERSTITIALS

Our first series of short interstitials in which CBBC presenter Iain Stirling travels the globe with his best friend Hacker, making mischief as they go. Aired in 2010.

‘Collaborating with CBBC was a dream come true for us as creating children’s TV is one of our favourite things to do. Also, we loved bringing Wigan to such vivid, colourful life.’ - Marc de Launey, Executive Producer on Iain and Hacker interstitials.

PSYCHIC BISCUIT

Sometimes, on a Friday afternoon, the animators at Arcus Studios create short animations based on a random sound from freesound.org.

‘I really wish I had the power to levitate biscuits with my mind. Reaching for the rich teas uses up valuable time and energy.’ - James Taylor, Hungry Animator of Psychic Biscuit.
?>

TOUCHY PIZZA

On Friday afternoon, the animators at Arcus Studios create a short animation based on a random sound from freesound.org. This one was done by our pal Bianca Pollio.
?>

THE SNOWFLAKE AND TINBOY

An experiment in freeform fluid narrative, where seemingly unrelated events affect one another in the great circle of life, that conveniently doubles as an excuse for us to animate a robot that shoots rainbow lasers! Eagle eyed viewers will spot a rare appearance from the original Arcus Animation Studios logo at the end of this video. This animation is notable for the fantastic debut vocal work of our Creative Producer Michael Gandham as Professor T. Muchly.

‘If I had my way there’d be a Tinboy movie. BECAUSE THE PLANET’S WORTH IT!’ - Michael O’Keefe, Office Manager at Arcus Animation Studios and fan of The Snowflake and Tinboy.
?>

SUCCORFISH SC4

Our second explainer video for Succorfish

‘When Succorfish m2m returned to us for another video, we further refined the sleek clean look of the original, this time diving into the map to see some of the locations the product would be used in. These were represented by several minimalist dioramas which were great fun to create!’ - James Taylor, Lead Animator of the Succorfish SC4 Commercial.
?>

SUCCORFISH M2M

Our first explainer video for Succorfish

‘Succorfish M2M approached us looking for an animated video with a clean atheistic to promote their services. We responded with this icon lead motion graphic animation focusing on the interconnectivity of programs, applications, hardware and software linked by the 'internet of things'.’ - James Taylor, Lead Animator of the Succorfish SC4 Commercial.
?>

COAST AND COUNTRY STAR

A short introductory animation for the Coast & Country 'Student Training Achieving Results' work experience scheme.

‘This was one of our first projects to utilise 3D animation and getting the look and feel of the rocket was an enjoyable challenge. I think it came out great, and I’ll happily jump on any opportunity to play with lens flares!’ - Greg Fraser, Lead Animator of the STAR commercial and J.J. Abrams fanatic
?>

APPYSNAP

Two animations we were asked to create by Appysnap. A fun, short intro animation and a 'prize unlocked' celebratory explosion!

‘This was the first project we did that would be displayed solely on smartphone and tablet screens and we adapted our style accordingly. It’s quick, bold and to the point. Just because an animation is short doesn’t mean that it doesn’t require careful consideration.’ - James Taylor, Animator on the Appysnap Animations.
?>

CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL ADOPTION

A short advert we made promoting Cumbria County Council’s adoption scheme on behalf of DTW Advertising.
?>

KITTY UP

An explainer video for the brilliant social saving solution, Kitty Up.

‘The guys at Kitty Up came to us looking for an promotional explainer video to help get across just how useful their group mobile wallet is. We decided the best course of action was cute gang of characters trekking off on holiday, including bike rides and ice creams in Venice.
We went with a puppet theatre style revolving world for the environements and I particularly liked the use of the word ‘scoundrel’ in the script Kitty Up provided us!’ - James Taylor, Lead Animator and Head Scoundrel on Kitty Up Explainer Video.
?>

BOOKING LIVE

A promotional explainer video for Booking Live’s innovative online booking website.

‘This is a neat solution for people in need of a booking system and we decided to use a bit of frame by frame character animation to compliment the fluid, customisable nature of the software. We had lots of fun animating skydivers, dentists and 'the internet' for this one, combining dozens of short pieces of frame by frame.’ - James Taylor, Lead Animator on Booking Live Promo Explainer.
?>

BLOOIE - CHAT HAS CHANGED

A promotional explainer video for Blooie, a social matching service

‘We were given a loose brief for this one and it’s a great example of how Arcus Studios can informatively illustrate a concept whilst maintaining a lighter, funny tone. There’s a heavy cake presence in this video. The concept got us talking in the studio about our shared desires, passions and ambitions. Funnily enough we kept circling back around to baked goods!’ - Greg Fraser, Animator on Blooie - Chat Has Changed
?>

GIVEY

A promotional explainer video for ‘Givey’, an app that makes it easy to give to the causes you care about.

‘This is a good example of what Arcus Studios can do to explain your product without sacrificing slick design. We took Givey’s script and delivered a simple explainer that manages to be neither boring, nor absent of a donkey in wellies.’ - Greg Fraser, Animator on Givey Explainer Promo.
?>

SSL POST - EPISODE 1 “REVOKE ACCESS”

The first in a series of shorts, advertising the advantages of SSL post through the misadventures of 'Agent Elman'

ALVINOS - COCKTAIL MENU

One our favourite bars in Newcastle, Alvinos commisioned us to create a comic book themed cocktail menu.

Each type of drink was given it’s own page long, self contained story, taking influences from the Beano, Barbarella and classic pulp sci fi, transformers, the wild west and film noir.

MEMORIAL IN A - ENCHANTED PARKS 2012

A musical, projector based animated video installation for Enchanted parks 2012

For our second Enchanted parks installation we focused our attention on Saltwell park's bandstand. Drawing on it's history and heritage, we knew it had to involve the brass music that would have resonated out around the park countless times.

After recording the talented Dunstan Silver Band in Newcastle Cathedral we designed and animated an assortment of park life animals to play along to the Christmas songs recorded. The animals themselves were designed with various periods in animation history in mind to reflect the history of musicians playing the venue.

On the night the animation was projected through smoke onto a mesh creating a ghostly, but friendly image that captivated children and adults alike.
?>

LOGO DESIGN - LEMON MOOSE

A logo design for Lemon Moose games.
